I AM SO EXCITED!!!
Why am I so excited?
..because I tried MAC products for the first time! I am not disappointed, I am quite pleased. More than pleased I think I am now a MAC addict, at least for their eye shadow!
So I recently made a venture to the West Edmonton Mall to stop in at Sephora, and MAC Cosmetics for the first time. I didn't see anything I really wanted at Sephora (doesn't help that they have a billion different brands/products there and you get overwhelmed) so off I wandered to MAC.
Extremely happy with their customer service doesn't even begin to cover it! As soon as I walked in I was helped by a lovely young lady, although she didn't make me feel pressured like most sales people do, she was just there to help. She helped me choose a good nude lipstick and was very knowledgeable on all of their products, I liked her.
While I was there I chose one lipstick, the large pro palette and insert as well as 3 pro eye shadows in Fall-ish colours.
The reason I wanted to try MAC in the first place is because I know that when I got to Vancouver Film School next year for their makeup program that some of the products that come in the kit they give us are MAC. So I thought, "why not? may as well try them before then to get familiar!" So I did.
Here is the pro palette that I got which I am super impressed with the quality and I love that it's all magnetic in how the eye shadow pots are held in and how the palette actually holds together!
This palette looks and feels professional and I can see myself not only using these for personal use in the future but when I get working with makeup as well!
Now the eye shadows! I was a bit worried that I would make a huge mess out of my face when trying to apply these as when trying to use multiple colours/shades of eye shadow in the past they just turned out being a giant blob of yuck. Well these did not disappoint either! Wow!
The eye shadow is vibrant, went on like velvet, and stuck right where I put it! It also blends amazingly and looks so, so good!
I chose colours that would work well as every day shades and that would work well together. Fall was also on my mind as here in Edmonton the cold has started to hit and the leaves have started to change.
The first eye shadow on the left in these photos is called Brulee and it's a soft, warm, very light brown. It doesn't seem to show up very well on my skin tone but I can see it being a good highlighter for under my eyebrows and the inner corner of my eyes, which is what I used it for today.
The next colour that I chose was specifically for my crease and it is called Corduroy and I love the rich, dark, warm brown and it's not too overwhelming on your lids. I also love how with the MAC eye shadow you can layer the colour so if you just want a subtle hint or a dark lid you can build it up.
The last colour that I got is called Amber Lights and it is 100%, absolutely the most favourite eye shadow that I've probably ever used! It is this stunning coppery/gold colour that glides on like silk and it shimmery yet not overwhelming or gaudy. I think it'll be my go to shade for the Fall as it'll also go with nearly every "fall themed" outfit!
The last MAC product that I picked up on my first shopping trip to their store was one of their Lustre Lipsticks. The colour that I got is called Hug Me and I think it's the perfect every day shade for my lips. I have naturally dark lips so I needed a darker nude and the lady that helped me out at the store just knocked it out the first try!
I found that it's almost the same shade as my normal lip colour but it gives you that finished look with a subtle hint of colour that I think I didn't even know I was looking for!
This lipstick is buttery and soft but it doesn't smudge all over your face if you're drinking or if you accidentally rub your lips against something. I hate lipsticks that transfer on to everything your lips touch and this is a good meet in the middle product.
All in all I think my first visit to MAC Cosmetics was a success and I'll definitely be shopping there again in the future! Totally love everything I got and would recommend their eyeshadows to everyone and anyone!
Here is my finished look with the eye shadows, minus the lipstick. :)
